Sharman White for USA TODAY Sports

April 10, 2014

Sharman WhiteA few weeks ago, USA TODAY asked me to take some portraits of Miller Grove (Ga.) High School boys basketball head coach Sharman White. He was in the running for the 2014 ALL USA Boys Basketball Head Coach of the Year, which he was named yesterday. And it’s not hard to see why he would be candidate for this title: He has led the Miller Grove Wolverines to six straight AAAAA state titles. Six straight. White, who is also the athletics director, started at the school when it opened in 2005. He has been winning championships since the 2008-09 season. From the Archives: Chase Elliott

April 5, 2014

Chase EilliottI don’t shoot much NASCAR anymore, but I wanted to share some photos I took a few years ago of  Chase Elliott, who won his first NASCAR Nationwide race tonight at Texas Motor Speedway. It’s always pretty cool when you have the chance to photograph someone before they really make it. [Read more…] about From the Archives: Chase Elliott

Truck Fire on I-75 Southbound

April 1, 2014

Truck fire 1I came across this truck fire today (about 6 p.m.) on the way home from Atlanta, southbound in Interstate 75, near exit 228 in Stockbridge. There appeared to be no injuries. But what’s crazy is that while firefighters were extinguishing the blaze, something inside the truck exploded like fireworks (see below). The truck was pulling a trailer owned by Ira Higdon grocery stores, based in Cairo, Ga.

Luckily, I was able to get in front of the truck before the blocked off the interstate, I can only imagine how far this backed traffic up. I’m just glad no one was injured. [Read more…] about Truck Fire on I-75 Southbound

The Dogs of Sochi Update

March 28, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-03-28 at 3.51.55 PMThere was a bit of good news yesterday concerning the stray dogs of Sochi — 10 of them arrived in Washington D.C. and will be ready for adoption in a few weeks. It was the result of multi-organization effort, including Humane Society International and the Washington Animal Rescue League, to save as many dogs as possible from the region. This was especially good news for those of us who feared that the attention and money to save these animals would disappear following the Winter Olympics. [Read more…] about The Dogs of Sochi Update

A Farewell for Tony Gonzalez

March 24, 2014

Football season has been over for a little while now, but this assignment was too cool not to share, even this late. Last December, the Falcons hired me to help them photograph the last game of future Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez, particularly his entrance on to the field during player introductions (above).
