Photos of the Year 2018

January 1, 2019

2018 NLDS

As we start a new year, I’m taking a look back at 2018 and sharing my favorite images. It was an amazing year, and I’m continually reminded of how lucky I am to make a living taking pictures. I’ve gone through everything I shot over the past 12 months, and narrowed it down to 25 photographs. They are presented here in chronological order, and include sports, political assignments and personal stories, as well as a few previously unpublished images from my personal and commercial work. Where possible, links are provided.

Gameday Experience for the Atlanta Falcons

And while photographing the action is extremely fun and rewarding, I absolutely love shooting all the peripheral elements. To me, it’s what brings color to the game.

talladega pit stopHere are few frames from my assignment on Sunday to cover the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway. I didn’t get to spend as much time as I would have liked wandering through the tens of thousands of fans who flock here twice a year, but we did have a spectacular race in some of the most beautiful weather Alabama has to offer. Hopefully I’ll be back for the October edition. [Read more…] about Talladega for USA Today Sports

Shady Dale Rodeo

June 10, 2013

A member of the roping team practices at the 2013 Shady Dale Rodeo.

I grew up pretty close to Shady Dale, Georgia, but I didn’t attend my first Shady Dale Rodeo until I was well into my 20s. It was about 6-7 years ago, when I was working as a photographer for the Griffin Daily News. I was blown away that this had been going on right up the road from me for most of my life and I had yet to attend. I immediately fell in love with rodeos and the people who attend them.
